ABOUT: As a little girl Gene Lane loved to look through her family photo albums. One day she found some pictures that were hidden in the back of desk drawer. Completely enamored by the lovely woman in the sepia toned photos, she asked her family members about her, thinking she saw a family resemblance; however, no answers were given. Years later as a teenager, she got into the whiskey and caused a major fuss and a ruckus at the local roller rink. Her grandfather locked her up in the attic for her own good as punishment. That’s when she discovered a letter in the floorboards with another picture of the same woman that haunted her dreams as a child. This is how she discovered she was the great great granddaughter of Jean Delaney Crompton, a woman who ran with the Dillinger Gang robbing banks and living it up. She was involved in the shootout at Little Bohemia were she was eventually caught and sentenced to 1 year and 1 day, or 366 days. Jean Delaney may have been a dirty family secret, but her namesake Gene Lane saw a free spirit whom she wanted to emulate. She couldn’t wait to find a gang of her own. And this is how Gene Lane came to be…
