Reservoir Dolls 199, Vaudeville Vixens 89
Last year’s Mad Rollin’ Dolls league champions, the Reservoir Dolls, showed why they came out in front last season and their determination to retain the title against the Vaudeville Vixens in the league’s home season opener Dec. 17.
Within the first 10 minutes, the Res Dolls were ahead by 25 points at 35, allowing the Vixens to put just 10 on the board. Vixen rookie Gertrude Awakening, who spent time on skates as a ref last season, took to the jam line three times during the first half, the only Vixen rookie to face eight-season veteran Mouse on the jam line. Her pack rallied behind her to hold Mouse to a mere four points during the fifth jam.
Res Dolls swapped out several skaters on the jam line, including Sprout'n a Tail who only saw four stops on the jam line all of last season compared to seven times in this bout. The Vixens saw Sugalumps, who sat out most of last season, Major Kusaknocky, and second-year skater Velma von Tussle dominate the jam line. At the start of the second half, the Res Dolls stood at 107 with the Vixens at 35.
Halfway through the second half, both teams faced off rookie jammers, Kill 'Ems for the Res Dolls and Little Susie Homewrecker for the Vixens. Kill 'Ems racked up four grand slams as the Res Dolls blockers kept Susie in the pack. Susie eventually passed the star to Montana Slamma, who was able to grab up four points.
Second-year skater Lady Who-Ha of the Res Dolls put up 19 points in the last seven minutes of the bout, putting her final total at 66 points and tying her for the fifth best single bout total in fewer jams than other skaters scoring the same amount.
In the final jam of the bout, Sugalumps had the power jam advantage but was only able to pick up 10 points due to a fierce Res Dolls defense, ending the bout 199-89 in the Res Dolls favor.
Career highlights during the bout included Mouse scoring her 1,300th point (an MRD record), Major Kusaknocky scoring her 400th point, Ana Killingspree skating 100 jams as a blocker and Keyser Suze skating 200 jams as a blocker. Dolly Pardon Me also became only the fourth skater in league history to skate in 500 jams.
