APRIL 24, 2005: MAD ROLLIN' DOLLS APRIL 2005 BOUT
Reservoir Dolls vs. Quad Squad

On April 24, the Mad Rollin' Dolls wrapped up their regular season under the light of a full moon with a rematch of the opening bout and more than a few scores to settle. The Reservoir Dolls had kidnapped the Quad Squad's mascot, Quasar, the night before and looked pretty smug as they dragged him out, beaten and bloody, during their introduction. Mr. Bigg guarded him closely as Tatum Tantrum, Pocahotas and Crackerjack earned the Dolls an early lead. Late in the first quarter, in superhero style, the Quads bum rushed Mr. Bigg, beat him horribly and won back their mascot. This lead to a bench-clearing brawl with two minutes left in the period. Mr. Bigg was seriously injured and needed the paramedics to help him off the track. With revenge in mind, an inspired Quad Squad stormed back to earn 17 points to the Dolls' 18 before the break. In the second half, the Reservoir Dolls put the hammer down and the action built to a fever pitch. Despite the fierce skating of Thunder Kitten and Jenny Knoxville, the Quads fell short when the Res Dolls blockers sewed them up in the pack again and again. The frustrated Quads took a beating and took offense at alleged dirty play by Pam Demonium, and as the Reservoir Dolls took the win, 55-29, the match degenerated into a barroom brawl in the middle of the good game line. Finally, Predator and Pam Demonium were dragged to their respective locker rooms to calm down while the audience rocked out to Droids Attack.

In the second match, the Psycho Kitties were looking down the barrel of an early season loss to the Unholy Rollers. Right from the start it was obvious the cats were in it to win. After a season fraught with internal struggle, the PKs recently reorganized as a Captainless cooperative and were ready to come out strong with fresh strategies. Despite a lot of time spent in the penalty box, the Psycho Kitties were able to bank points early through the smart jamming of Frenchie and Hell Kat. The rough-and-tumble half produced a number of fights, a continuation of the bad blood spilled in the January bout. The final period produced some of the most dramatic action of the season. The Unholy Rollers came out fired up and Jewels of Denile racked up the points while Maverick and Hell Kat were busy fighting out of bounds. Big Diesel, the Psycho Kitties' most devastating blocker, arrived late to the bout and put her talents to use right away knocking down Unholies. Yngrid Murdersteen, Crash Lee and the other Unholy jammers were pounded by the Psycho Kitty blockers. Even though they outscored the crazy cats in the second half, the Unholy Rollers fell short in one of the most dramatic bouts of the season 33-28. This was the first win for the Psycho Kitties and it was well worth the wait. Congratulations, Kitties!

This bout was, by far, the most gripping and intense of the season, thanks in large part to the introduction of a beautiful new scoreboard and jammer sprint (rather than rolling) starts. The playoffs are set, so get your tickets early for the league-leading Reservoir Dolls vs. the resurgent Psycho Kitties, and the Unholy Rollers vs. the Quad Squad in a rematch of a one-point bout earlier this season, and keep supporting roller derby! Mad Dolls love you.

Scores:
Reservoir Dolls 55, Quad Squad 29
